Fisher Engineering

Back over the water again for Fisher Engineering, but this time the sun was out!

Earlier in the year I was commissioned by Fisher to photograph the Leeds Arena. The weather was awful so B&W was the only option. This time, using the sun on two consecutive days proved to be a lot more productive. The shadows were great, the colours were punchy and the 17mm TSE was a necessity.

Paul Roe – Somebody up there really did like me

Every photographer starts somewhere but Paul Roe changed the course of my career, without question. I met him years ago in Belfast when I was struggling to find solid photography jobs. He was starring in a play called ‘Somebody up there likes me’.

I asked could I take his portrait and he kindly agreed. A month later, out of curiosity, I entered his portrait into a UK competition and luckily it got me into the 2nd round. Eight weeks later I found myself in the final. Soon after, I was crowned ‘Photographer of the Year in the UK’ ….. but I’ll always remember the man and portrait that got me there. It’s still my favourite shot and hangs proudly in my office.

Seems daft to be writing about this but cutting to the chase, I received a call from Paul earlier today, which of course I missed. He thanked me for the print that I sent him all those years ago and said that “it was his favourite shot ever”. It’s great to hear that feedback, even though it was four years ago.

Global Rainbow – Ards Council

A few weeks ago I was commissioned by Ards Council to photograph the amazing Global Rainbow by the artist, Yvette Mattern. I was out for two nights with the second feeling like -20. Always remember to bring the gloves on cold jobs!

The Mac – Feb 2012

This month finished off the construction progress of The MAC.

The final shoot will take place in six weeks, with the building being used by the public. With Spring on our doorstep, hopefully this will mean good skies for some interesting night shots.

Construction Portraiture @ Titanic Belfast

Titanic Belfast will be launching in March of this year. I’m happy to announce that the opening exhibition will comprise of a selection of my construction and portraiture work from the past year.

The exhibition will also be shared with Chris Heaney, another belfast photographer who has been onsite since Oct 2011. Chris currently has an amazing exhibition of the Harland & Wolff Drawing Offices in The Ulster Hall in Belfast, finishing on the 3rd March.

Some of my latest portraits are below. I’ve a few more to get before the exhibition opens so I’ll keep you posted …..
