Belfast Grand Central Station
Client: Farrans / SACYR
Belfast Grand Central Station is Northern Ireland’s newest and most advanced transportation hub. Situated in the heart of Belfast, it efficiently connects rail, bus, and pedestrian travel across the entire region. Moreover, it is a landmark of contemporary architecture and sets a new standard for public infrastructure. Its striking glass and steel design, together with sustainable features, demonstrates how modern architecture can harmonize with urban heritage.
Beyond this, the station serves not only as a vital transport hub but also as a catalyst for the redevelopment of the surrounding area. As a result, it attracts new investment, emerging businesses, and fresh cultural initiatives. Over the coming years, the precinct is expected to transform into a vibrant mixed-use district. It will feature offices, retail, leisure, and public spaces. Consequently, this redevelopment will not only enhance the city centre’s economic vitality but also create visually cohesive streetscapes. In doing so, it will reinforce Belfast’s identity as a forward-looking, dynamic urban centre.
Furthermore, the station was delivered through the joint partnership of Sacyr and Farrans. It was designed by RPP Architects and John McAslan + Partners. In addition, its construction and opening were documented over two years through Donal McCann’s architectural photography. To see a full portfolio of the station, click here.
Translink, Northern Ireland’s public transport provider, served as the client for this £340 million (€405 million) project. Ultimately, Belfast Grand Central Station redefines travel in Northern Ireland, combining innovation, connectivity, and community pride.
