Glenart House
Client: Arigho Larmour Wheeler Architects
Glenart House in Blackrock is a sensitively refurbished and extended four-storey Victorian townhouse, designed by Arigho Larmour Wheeler Architects. The project carefully restores the original 1860s redbrick townhouse while introducing contemporary living spaces that connect seamlessly to the mature rear garden.
The refurbishment uncovered and conserved intricate original plasterwork, cornices, and historic brickwork, combining traditional craftsmanship with modern interventions. A discreet extension at the lower ground and ground floor introduces top-lit, open-plan living areas, maximising daylight and visual connection to the garden. Charred timber cladding complements the polychromatic brickwork, while rooflights and large windows animate the interiors with natural light.
The new entrance, courtyard, and timber-lined window seats create subtle moments of delight, blending heritage and contemporary design throughout. Glenart House exemplifies how careful architectural interventions can respect the historic fabric of a building while enhancing functionality and lifestyle.
